这不是简单的单双步问题。这种棋局等价于一个取石子游戏的博弈问题：给定几堆数目不一的石子，甲乙两人分别轮流从中取石子。规定每次只能从一堆中取不少于一颗的石子。最后取完者为胜。问谁有必胜策略。
这个问题的解法是，把每堆的石子数（对应于炮之间的间隔步数。兵之间的间隔数如果是1，只是虚设，不看成一堆石子，如果是2，就看成一堆只有一颗石子的独立石子堆）都写成二进制一次排列成一竖排。例如1楼局势就可以看成五堆石子，石子数依次为4，6，1，1，1写成二进制就是

取胜的策略就是把各位的1的个数都变为双数个（0个也算）。由于初始状态“百”位有2个1，“十”位有1个1，“个”位有3个1，并不是每一位上都是双数个1的状态，所以这是一个先取者胜的状态。从高位到低位看，“十”位上最先出现非双数个1，可以任意找一堆十位上是1的石子堆（因为十位上1的总数是单数，所以这样的石子至少有一堆），在这个例子里恰好是唯一的，即110。把该堆的十位以后的1有选择地变成0，使得所有位上的1的个数都是双数个。因为十位上的1必须变成0，所以这一定是一个石子数变少的合法操作。在这个例子里就是把110变成101 （即6变成5，即走炮三进一）

接下来黑方取石子（走棋），不管他使哪一堆石子数变少，总有一个1变为0的最高位，在该位上1的总数成为单数个。红方继续这个方案。直到所有的位上的1都变为0，黑方无以为继，红方胜。
